<p>I didn't understand the explanation:
It avoids the errors of the original by eliminating the extra subject, "each," and by avoiding subject-verb disagreement.</p>

<p>"Each" is a singular pronoun.
"Both" is necessary to fix the subject-verb agreement.
There also needs to be a conjunction to separate the two indepedent clauses.</p>

<p>The answer is D.</p>
