SAT Writing Subscores???

The first time I took the SAT with writing, I got a 10 on the essay, and maybe like 62 or 63 for the multiple choice subscore, and ended up with a 640.

The second time I took the SAT with writing I got a 6 on the essay, but a perfect score on the multiple choice, and ended up with a 660.

Will they like.....combine these (i know they is very vague, but let's assume its people who say that they will look at the writing score) or give me the benefit of the doubt on the second time around, in regards to my high multiple choice score?

.....i know that they do get these subscores, thats why im asking.

to my knowledge they don't.

i doubt that they OFFICIALLY do, but do you think they will give me the benefit of the doubt, that I can write well (because of the 10, and the perfect multiple choice) or just assume since the highest combined was 660 that I'm mediocre.

P.S. did anyone else have this problem???

yeah i think they will give you the benefit of the doubt. i think they will consider your college essays much more heavily than any aspect of the writing score.

i actually started the exact same thread a few days ago. from the responses i got, it seems that they dont. i got a perfect multiple choice the first time and a 7 on the essay, with a 720. i got a 67 or something the second time and a 10 on the essay, but my score dropped to 690. both are great scores, i admit, but i was hoping that they would combine the 10 and perfect grammar to get around a 760-780. might happen, probably not.

nope it wont...
The writing is from the single sitting.. many colleges dont even take ur best math, verbal and writing from multiple sittings..
This tho, chanceless

question: i got 12 essay but 6 wrong MC...720 - make sense?

thx!

im not talking about schools that are equally weighing the writing section (harvard i think does, stanford also)

I just mean the schools that are saying they'll look at it, but not give it alot of weight. Would they look at the scores in the 600's and say, he's just a mediocre writer, or notice that I got a perfect score on one of the multiple choices, and a respectible score on the other essay. Im not expecting them to combine and recalculate and give me a 770, i'm just looking for the benefit of the doubt.

Atarius, what are you talking about? All of the college I'm applying to (HYP included) only profess to look at the highest.

wow, perfect on the MC and 10 on the essay is likely to be an 800. Too bad you didn't get those two in one sitting.

I got two wrong in my multiple choice qs, 9 in the essay and a 770 score...

See,
Ur essays are there to show how well you write....
Ur SAT's show some talent yes, but colleges understand that you can mess up...maybe a cold or summat...

Which is why they give weight to the highest scores...

To the OP, though: your situation sucks. It definitely punctuates the capricious nature of the Writing section in general...to go from one extreme to the other. I doubt that they will take your highest subscore...they may notice your particular problem, though.

no worries

november
MC-74
Essay-12

780

problem solved

LOL
good job
