Is writing really AS important as reading and math?my counselor always tells me to focus on the reading and maths sections (international student). I am applying to : uc's bu umich northeastern.
Will the writing portion be ESSENTIAL in the making of the decision?I am stuck on a 550...

Hmm… I know some colleges don’t even consider the writing section at all… But I would say most universities look at the writing section.

it’s different for some colleges. Some don’t even look at it (only a couple do this now). Others think of it as less than math or critical reading (about equal to a subject test). And others count it just as much.

Thanks for replying. Does anyone know if the writing portion is important for the universities I listed?

Look for yourself:

For UMich,

<a href=“BigFuture College Search”>BigFuture College Search;

click applying on the left panel and then SAT and ACT scores from the bottom panel.

For other universities just use the search feature at the top.

For the vast majority of universities the writing portion is considered.

Practicing I mostly suggest reading this:

[Complete SAT Grammar Rules](http://thecriticalreader.com/general-grammar-tips/sat-grammar/item/264-complete-sat-grammar-rules.html)

And just knocking out practice sections. after you finish, go through and mark the rules that were broken for each question you found difficult, right or wrong.
