<p>No one has ever suggested purposely doing poorly on the writting section even though virtually all the top 15 schools and the top 15 liberal arts schools score the SAT based on a 1600 scale. The reason for this has to do with how the writting section was added a few years ago(Univ of CA) and is too long to get into on this thread. This section was forced on the other schools by the Univ of CA in an attempt to make the SAT more inclusive. But as stated before they don’t even grade the grammar and no one really has figured out what if anything it really measures. Therefore the selective schools look at it but base your SAT performance on the M-CR score. End of story. All applicants should obviously do their best on all sections but a 600 on Math is very different than a 600 on the writting section. Please go back and note that when NU reports the scores of the new incoming freshman class they do so on the 1600 scale(1442 I believe last year). It’s time to move on to a new topic.</p>
