I got perfect CR and Math, but my essay sucks every time (including my 2 ACTs). I'm probably not going to retake the test, but I wish the SAT was still only CR and math lol.

Of course they do. In fact, a lot of colleges still ignore the writing score completely; only a few colleges will weight writing equally with CR + M.

That's why when you ask someone "Hey man what did you get on the SAT" they will still give you an answer out of 1600, in most cases.

^ not the people I ask...

boo i wish it were math and writing :(

1590 (math + writing) vs. 1500 (math + reading) vs. 1490 (reading + writing)

my vote is for math and writing only count

but unfortunately (for me, for you its a good thing) reading and math are weighed more heavily

not always.

i know that carleton, oberlin, penn, usc, tufts

give it equal weight

Wow, retaking a 1600 M+CR. CC sucks.

Lol!
The colleges I go to weigh all three equally, so I guess I'm good :]

Huge relief to hear that the CR and M scores are generally weighted more...or at least, not weighted less.

I agree with Post #3 above. The writing section is easily learned, however. I have seen several students score above 750 on the writing section--even a couple of 800s--while scoring below 650 on the math & cr portions.

^ haha. Just like me. below 700's CR + M and above 700 W.

This world is cruel. =(

Yeah this is why I feel slightly retarded retaking my 1570/1600 because of my wonderful 680 W w/ 7 essay :/

actually another user, i think it was trackgirl or something, made a legitimate thread about retaking the SAT because of a 10 on the essay. she got a 2400, btw, although the thread simply said "I did pretty well, but..."

She must be mentally retarded, despite what the SAT score says. *****ing idiot.

Haha, studydue...saw your post and looked like a math problem...so..lol I solved for your scores.

1590 (math + writing) vs. 1500 (math + reading) vs. 1490 (reading + writing)

my vote is for math and writing only count

but unfortunately (for me, for you its a good thing) reading and math are weighed more heavily

M+W=1590
M+CR=1500
CR+W=1490

M=1590-W
CR=1490-W

1590-W+1490-W=1500

-2W=-1580

W=790
M=800
CR=700

Lol, I know...I was pretty bored...

Haha, Quicksandslowly, I did the same...

Lol, Arachnotron. That's what math people do, I guess.

Yeah. Although you can do it in your head, albeit without true mathematical verification.
It's good to see the real solution, though :)

Of course, most top colleges do not even look at the writing section. Those who say that writing is given equal weight are typically people who studied and did well in writing (since it is easily mastered) and didn't do as well in CR + Math. Every rep from the colleges I visited either said that they don't consider the writing section because a. it too new so they don't have the proper data to verify that it is an accurate predictor of college success, b. good grammar does not equal good writing or c. the essay is subjective, etc.

I have to agree with JJJJ4... it isn't really given much weight.

Although I may be a bit biased since i got a 800 CR, 780 M... and a 650 writing :)

I don't see why it wouldn't be weighted. It's like a subject test, only slightly more important...
