Satii Chemistry Official Thread

yes... my AIM is silvachik08 for now...
IM me

I'm gonna have to stay thank you AP Chem for that.

SO3 + H2O -> H2SO4 (or H+ + HSO4-)
Glass...yeah. silicon dioxide. Ozone...allotrope of oxygen

What about the one that went "NO2(g) = NO + O2+ heat" or something that asked what would happen if the system was placed in ice water. Choices were:

I. increase in pressure
II. increase in volume
III. increase in concentration of NO2 or something.

III only!!

Pressure would decrease when temp. decreases..
so would volume......

But concentration will increase.. Le'Chatlier's principle

Gay Lussac's law =

T1 P1
--- = ----
T2 P2

Charles's law

V=kT

NO2 would increase since when temperature decreases and reaction is exothermic, reaction shifts to the left..

I thought it was I only. What did anyone else put?

I'm not sure about the NO2 problem.

If you're putting it in ice, according to Le Chats, it'll try to compensate for it by shifting to the right, to produce more heat, NO, and O2. Isn't this right logic? I wouldn't know why it would not work.

Wait, did it say increase or decrease in NO2 concentration for choice III ?

If you have less heat, and the reaction is exothermic, the reaction shifts to the right, not the left, so NO2 decreases. Pressure does increase, but I'm not sure about volume...

Thus, raising the temperature of this system is equivalent to adding excess product to the system. The equilibrium constant therefore decreases with increasing temperature.

yes.. you are right.. then its II

since number of moles of gas increase.. therefore volume increases..

Yeah, HELTAHIR is right.

Is III increase or decrease NO2? I don't remember clearly.

Pressure decreases when temperature decreases...

but the problem stated that it was in a glass valve or w/e...meaning that volume is a constant..and since it was exothermic and heat was taken, away, pressure would decrease with the temperature (charles-lussac)....
i think choice III was that NO2 concentration DECREASES..
i put III only

It prob. did cause i also remember saying that it DECREASES

ok..so III only is right?

If we have the problem remembered correctly, then yes.

Lets Take A Vote:

(a) A only
(b) B only
(c) C only
(d) A and B
(e) B and C
(f) A and C
(g) A, B, and C

you mean I, II, and III right? i got c

Lets Take A Vote:

(a) I only
(b) II only
(c) III only
(d) I and II
(e) II and III
(f) I and III
(g) I, II, and III
