There's a rumor going around in my school that the 2c test is a must for UCLA and Berkeley. Is this true? Or does it depend on other SAT scores?

This is true. Starting with the freshman applicants for Fall 2006, UCLA will require everyone to take the SAT II Math IIC exam and will no longer accept the Math IC exam. This is likely enforced to help the admissions committees evaluate the college-readiness of students with regards to freshman calculus, as well as to improve the overall freshman profile. Don't know about Berkeley, though.

hmm... from what i understood, math IIc is the only math exam accepted now. HOWEVER, you can now choose your two SAT II subjects and do not necessarily have to choose a math (which would be math IIc).

for example, i thought someone can now do: sat II biology and sat II us history.

oh thank God I didn't have to deal with that requirement.

but can students not take a math at all?

i thought that was one of the new options for UC applicants in regards to SAT II's; i thought students could have their pick of any two SAT II's provided that they are in different fields.

yeah, i don't think fall 2005 applicants are actually required to take math IIc. I believe they have a choice for the two they must take - the two tests just have to be in two different subject areas. if you do opt to take a math subject test, however, you must take the math IIc, since math I is now considered obsolete by the UCs because of the new SAT I math.
