sat math IIc required for UC's???

question..

is the sat math IIc required or recommended for UC's??

If i did not take the sat math IIc it would not affect my chances of admission, right? I plan on majoring in English.

Nope the SAT Math IIC is not required...it might be recommended(not sure) but i KNOW it's not required

If you are applying to UCLA, you should be aware of a new rule which has been in effect since this year: you are recommended to take a math SAT II test, and if so, you are required to the SAT II Math IIC test - no other math variant is allowed in its place. (If you send an SAT II Math I/IC score to UCLA, it will be ignored, even if it's an 800.) Also, if you are applying to UCLA Engineering, Math IIC is virtually required. The two de facto subject tests for engineering applicants are Math IIC (700+) and Physics/Chemistry/Biology(E/M) (700+), so don't count on being admitted without taking Math IIC anyways.

Q: I have heard that your test score requirements are changing. What are the new requirements for the ACT and SAT?

A: You must take one of the following:

ACT Assessment
SAT Reasoning Test (formerly known as SAT I)
And you must also take at least two SAT Subject Tests (formerly known as SAT II), one from any two of the following subject areas:

English (literature)
history/social studies
mathematics (Level 2 only; Level 1 will no longer be accepted)
science
languages (other than English)
One more thing: Applicants to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are strongly encouraged to take the following SAT Subject Tests: Math Level 2 and a science test (Biology E/M, Chemistry, or Physics) that is closely related to the applicant's intended major.

i dont plan on majoring in engineering though..

i took the literature and us history test.

does it really matter that i didnt take the math??

i e-mailed a UCLA admissions person and here is the question i asked:
Hello,
I am a senior in high school and I plan on applying to your school. I
also plan on majoring in English - will not taking the SAT II Math IIC
Exam affect my chances of admission? I would appreciate a response.
Thank you for your time.

and here's the response i got:
No. The only time this will affect your admission is if you are
applying to the School of Engineering. Since you intend to study
English, you can take any two SAT II exams (as long as your cover two
different subject areas).

It is not required to take mathIIc, but I know that the UC's like to see that score. As you probably know, mathI is useless. I'm planning on majoring and English and I decided to take mathIIc for the simple fact that they "really like" to see it, but they don't "require" it.

who did you hear from that they "really like" to see it...?

From my high school counselor, who happens to be a UC Davis graduate that regularly attends UC acceptance meetings. I wouldn't stress about not taking mathIIc; it just looks better than some other subjects.

ahh, i'm so conflicted now. i missed the late reg. date for december, so if i took the math 2c test i'd probably have to take it as a standby. i highly doubt i'd get a very high score on it.... but i guess i'm willing to take it if it will give me that much better of a chance of getting in.
what should i do??

I honestly can't tell you how much better of a chance it would give you. I can only say it could help. Might as well try standby; it couldn't hurt you and you may surprise yourself.
