I'm currently a Junior in high school...hoping to apply to Wes for Class of 2012. I have a few questions regarding SATs, however, since the admissions website doesn't really specify...

1) Does Wes use a superscore when evaluating SAT grades? On my first try (this past May), I scored a 2150: M700, CR670, W780 (Essay: 11). Are these scores definitely too low for Wes? I am not too concerned w/ math or writing, just that CR score....

2) SATII's
I took Math I (740), World History (690), and Bio-E (690) thus far, and am going to take USHistory + Literature on Saturday. How are these scores in comparison to Wes standards, and is it neccesary that I take Math II? I'm planning on majoring in Political Science/Economics.

I know that Standardized Tests are only a fraction of the application...esspecially since I hear Wes focuses on "fit." Still, how do you think I measure up SAT-wise??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated =]
Thanks!

want2b, I would say that you should retake the SAT I primarily to raise both your Critical Reading and your Math scores, just to be completely secure. Nevertheless, your scores are quite wonderful. A 2150 is formidable. As for the SAT IIs, I would take the ones pertinent to your possible major-- namely Economics, Math II, and US History. The rest don't seem as important.

In short, your scores are fine, but you might wanna retake the SAT I and take some more SAT IIs. Wesleyan's quite a reach/ target school for anyone, and its median SAT scores are all in the 700 range. According to wikipedia.org, Wesleyan's median scores for the Class of 2011 are as follows:

Back in the day, I had 790 writing, 700 French, 650 bio-M... I claimed I was going to major in comp sci or poli sci. I got in and majored in astro/physics. SAT IIs are wack, good luck.

Edit: I recall them taking the highest score in each category from all sittings. The average is about 700 in all categories, so shoot for that. Based on my sister's experience applying this year, I believe SATs are definitely a non-trivial factor in admissions at Wes, so get them up as high as you can.

I scored a 740 on the SAT I-CR, a 780 on the SAT I-Math, a 790 on the SAT I-Writing, a 790 on the Chemistry, and an 800 on the Math Level 2, if that's any help. And yes, these three SAT scores are the highest scores of two seatings, whereas the SAT Subject Test scores are all from one sitting, as I only took these two SAT Subject Tests only once.

Well, just remember, it's not all about the SAT scores. I got in with a 670 CR, 660 M, and 640 W. I also got a 710 on USH, 700 on Lit, and 680 on Bio E as for SAT IIs. My interview, transcript, and essays reflected me far more than these scores did though, at least I thought. Good luck!
