SAT's good enough or should I try out the ACT?

After 3 gruelling tries, I maxed out my score at a fair 2250 (2260 super score). The problem lies in my individual section score. CR 690 M 760 W 800. Will my CR score hurt my chance in any way? I understand that SAT’s do not factor in greatly after a certain threshold score. Does my score pass this threshold?

If not, I will have to do the ACT else I shall begin preparation for SAT Subject Test.
I am an international applicant. Looking to apply to top engineering schools (Stanford, MIT, Berkeley, CMU and a few ivies)

For Engineering students it goes like this 1) Math 2) Critical and then Writing. So I think (personal thougth) that writing does not matter if your SAT score is more than 2100.
I do not think that your SAT score is bad but for a school like MIT 690 is the low side of their middle range and 760 is lower than their middle Range 770-800 so I think you should probably try the ACT

This is purely a personal thought. Look for other people to help :stuck_out_tongue:

This is definitely “past the threshold” for ANY school you apply to. I would advise you to maybe try out the ACT once as well…you never know what could happen. I took the SAT four times, improving my score by 170 points between the 3rd and 4th time…but in hindsight I don’t think it was necessary. We’ll see if it helped at all when college decisions come back in a few weeks… But yeah, don’t sweat it, 2250 is fantastic, just focus on the subject tests now (maybe take English Literature and get a good score to offset the critical reading score).

It couldn’t hurt to try the ACT at least once. I wouldn’t bother sitting for the SAT again, if you’ve taken it three times already. Your score is certainly “good enough,” but the ACT might reveal different strengths (my son did better on the Verbal sections of ACT, and on the SAT Math, although the composite scores were nearly identical).
