SAT's: Mixed scores or no?

Anyone know off the top of their head if Amherst takes the highest score per section on the SATs or the highest overall score per sitting?

Example:

I currently (one testing) have a 800 Crit. Reading, 680 Math, 790 Writing. So overall I have 2270. I’d like to retake it to up the Math and possibly the essay (which I wasn’t expecting to be first!)If I retake and get 750/740(trust me, I know I can up it this much, my calculator died on me the first time)/795, will they take 800/750/795 or the highest individual sitting?

I'm pretty sure it's per section

Per section. Highest combined score.

Is it possible to get 795 on the SAT? I thought it went in chunks of tens.

I got a 740 on the Writing, a 760 on the Critical Reading, and a 560 on the Math.

They take the highest score in each section, regardless of which sitting you got it. Btw, what's with the 795? SAT scores are always multiples of ten.

I didn't know that. Sinces I got a 10 on my essay and I got 790 Writing, I figured if I got 11 or 12 (including the mult. choice) I might get 795.

My daughter had 800 / 630 Math / 800, retook the SATs and got 800 / 640 / 800, then took the SAT Subject Test for Math and got a 740. You may want to try the subject test if you feel concerned that your Math record may otherwise be a problem.

Did she do math level 2 or math level 1?

Madourd, sorry to burst your bubble, but you definitely CAN'T get a 795. It's by tens. Always.

You can tell by looking at any score conversion chart in any prep book or one of CollegeBoard's that it's always by tens.

I already acknowledged that I didn't know that they went by tens.
