How much should one worry about their scores? how important are they?

i've been stressing out since freshman year, so i'd say they're pretty important. a lot of the universities require the SAT and two subject test scores. I'm a sophomore and I've already taken the SAT 4 times and so far my best score is a 2125, which is lower than what I've been aiming for.

So yeah, over all I'd say they're pretty important.

^4 times? Uh, you should probably stop taking them.

^ why not? its free through my school. i've improved each time, though.

don't they realize that you take it so many times though?

no. i haven't sent any of my scores away yet and two of them were in middle school.

you can't possibly get a 2125. each score has a 0 as the ones digit, like 2120, 2130, 2140, so on and so forth.

even collegeboard and other sat prep book conversion charts don't have 2125 or 2135, etc.

so getting a 2125 is technically impossible.

-

sat scores are pretty important, you should know that. GPA and scores first (all those numbers - rank, etc), then extracurricular activities, teacher recs, and others follow.

All the scores get sent to colleges. They will know if you have taken it 10 times.

I'd worry about getting enough extracurriculars than to take the SAT all the time...

yea i mean some people actually say that SATs arent everything, you still need talent/skill, GPA, secondary school grades, volounteer services, etc. But I guess it depends on the school, on how much SATs are valued.

but wow 4 times...yea colleges realize how many times you take it, but look at the highest score you have gotten out of all of the times you took it.

It's just im stressing on getting a good score on them, and that if i dnt meet the range that some schools have, then i feel like i have no chances at all at being accepted...and I hate that feeling cause know I'm not a test person and dnt like being judged by SATs alone...

so do you think I'm worrying too much by feeling this way? Or should I really pay attention to those school's SAT ranges and average?

as long your scores fall within the school's "average" score distribution, it won't make OR break your admission (other personal factors do)

guess your right, thx ^^

The trend over the last couple of years has been that the SAT has decreasing importance. The ACT has become more popular, as has not taking the SAT at all.

Don't kill yourself striving for a perfect 2400-- remember:

Harvard turned down 1,100 student applicants with perfect 800 scores on the SAT math exam. Yale rejected several applicants with perfect 2400 scores on the three-part SAT.

how important is taking the writing portion of the ACT? and even though i signed up w/o the writing, can i change it? cause see, my friend said it wasnt important so i ddnt go for it...but i think its more important than my friend said it was.

aside from whether or not colleges will look favorably upon taking the SATs more than three or four times (many of them don't), statistically, there is a dramatic drop in improvement probability after the third sitting.

It is designed to be an aptitude test, after all. Once you reach a certain point, there's really not much you can do about your score.

yes they are important to an extent

but then so is everything else...

hmmmmm

agree with naidu, but regarding foreign students, such as myself, who see themselves doing the pre sats, for what if eventually i am going to study in my country, and therefore do not need the sat

thats very true that the SATs arent everything you need because colleges look at more than just that because they want to see how well you test also how well you are under pressure so if you make a bad grade on the SAT and have good grades to back it up it can explain a lot not that im saying its okay to make a bad grade on the SAT its just not the only thing colleges are looking for

I think that the SAT scores are very important, but its not all colleges look at.

I dont know .. butyy me too im stressed about this since last year... !!
