Saturday Physics!

Hey,

I know its a lil too late for many, but there was this physics program that was part of for my junior and senior year in high school. It really just for Houston students, its a joint program between Rice and University of Houston. It really looks great on your application that you were part of a program, i think that was one of the reasons i was accepted, it shows that i was interested in rice. My friend and i were part of that program and we both got accepted, but other people from our school that applied didnt and they werent part of the program. I dunno, i guess it gave us that "edge" over them.

The program is called Quarknet, and like we do interesting stuff. when i was part of the program we built cosmic ray detectors along with other schools and put them on our roofs. we had computers record data and we would all bring our data together and compare and stuff. The best thing is its FREE! i dont know what they are doing now, but i still get emails.

Welcome to Saturday Physics! Dr. Corcoran and I look forward to our examining the world of physics together. We will meet in Room 100 in the classroom section of the new Science and Engineering Complex (SEC).

Go to http://www.uh.edu/campus_map/buildings/SEC.html for information and parking directions. Additional campus maps are available at http://uh.edu/uhmaps/.
Dr. Wei-Kan Chu, Research Director for the Texas Center for Superconductivity, will address the Saturday Physics group February 18, 2006 on the principles of superconductivity as well as the very interesting work in Nanotechnology and other areas that he and his group currently pursue. Following Dr. Chu’s talk, we will share refreshments and a tour of the center.
You may discover more about Dr. Chu on his home page: http://spokane.tcs.uh.edu/~wkchu/ and more about his group at http://spokane.tcs.uh.edu. Further information for the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston may be viewed at http://www.tcsam.uh.edu/.

ask your physics teacher to get involved with the program or just get some friends and go. Our physics teacher even got to do research in Switzerland at CERN, through the program, but ddnt invite us.....
