I would like to indicate a particular school is one of my top choices, could I say … ‘making it one of my top choice schools’. This school really is top 3 on my list, how else can I express this? It is a public school so I cannot apply ED, I am applying EA however.
I’m not an expert, but I think you need write a essay about you. Unless you tell you want study there because all your family studied there and is amazing be a part of legacy, but write an essay tell “you are mi third option”, I don’t think is a good idea.
Right, of course my essay would focus on me and how I will fit into the school, but I am talking about subtly hinting that a school is one of my top choices in my essays.
When you phrase it that way, it reminds the reader that you have other top choices, too. Would you like someone to ask you out by saying, “you’re one of my top three choices to go to homecoming”?
Applying EA is already showing strong interest. I’m not sure what you’re proposing would add anything to that.
It would probably not be the best idea to explicitly write in your essay that a particular school is your top choice. Instead, you should write interesting essays that convey who you are. You should also do supplement essays as they allow you to provide more insight about yourself, and they show that you’re putting effort into your application. If there’s a prompt that asks, “Why this university?,” write about the factors that make that school one of your top choices, such as professors, curriculum, size, geography, etc.
Does the school consider interest? If so, then requesting an interview, visiting campus or a rep at a college fair, and signing up for their website are all good ways of showing interest. If they have supplement essays asking why this school, that’s another good way.
“One of my top choices” to me sounds sort of like “I don’t intend to go there, but at least you are okay if I don’t get in to my top choices”.
Be careful to edit letters that you plan to send to other several schools. For example, don’t say I always dreamed of attending ABC and sending that same letter to VFB and YLK. It was funny to get the letter at a different school, but it was also a good reminder to check and individualize application letters and other correspondence.
At an interview, never say Specific Person promised I could do …The interviewer may know the Specific Person and think there is no way that was promised. The two school people may know each other and know they are not in a position to do what was alleged.
It’s always best to deal honestly because it is difficult to remember what was said to gain leverage with multiple people.
@DadTwoGirls ok thanks, that makes sense. I edited that out of my supplemental before sending it.
