Saying no to loans?

So I got admitted into a school and they gave me 7,000 in grants and about 6,000 loans and I haven’t said yes. Is it possible to say yes to the grants but not the loans? Any personal stories? Anything will help!

Yes, you can decline the loan.

Yes, you can accept the grants but not the loans, but you won’t get more aid. So that is just +$6000 more that you or your family need to come up with up front.

You can also say yes to loans now, but choose to cancel them later before disbursement. And you can choose to take some but not all of the loans – for example, if some are subsidized, to accept the subsidized loans only. (Subsidized loans have an origination fee like the others, but are -0- interest and deferred payment as long as you are in school, so you are not charged interest until after you graduate.)

You can also decline the loans now and borrow them later in the year if you need the money. You would need to talk to your aid office if you decide to accept loans you previously declined, but you would be eligible to borrow as long as you are enrolled at least half time when you borrow.
