I just got my official letter for USC(no honors yet) it was dated 12/11 and by the looks of it all of the honors acceptances are dated 12/17 or 12/18. So if I do get in this round I should expect to get the official letter in nearly two weeks. :(( I’m in-state btw haha.
Got offered an “at least” scholarship of $2,000 (in-state) a few weeks ago when I got the general admissions letter.
Thanks @Kyrskov, @Chopinspiano, @jcarovillano for the update. I received the acceptance with “at least scholarship” (OOS) letter that was dated Nov 6 (I think it reached me Nov 11). But no news on honors yet so was curious. I am on the west coast so maybe mail is delayed with the holiday season. Fingers crossed for Honors acceptance.
I think you’ll receive yoru honors letter soon. I just got mine in the mail. It is postmarked on the 18th. After this honors letter, we still all have to wait for the OOS scholarship letter. More waiting! Good luck on honors, be sure to tell us when you get in!
Honors letter dated 12-18 reached the Great Plains today (Kansas).
D rec’d Honors letter today. At bottom stated scholarship info to follow in coming weeks. ‘At least’ letter came with acceptance. OOS,
Do I have a chance?
race: african american
ACT: 33
GPA:4.1
i am in state
I know my gpa is really low, its probably one of the lowest at my school but my school doesn’t rank.
^^Honors acceptances will come out through first part of February so it’s too early to start worrying. Of course you stand chance even with lower gpa if you have taken the most rigorous courses, have good ECs and good essays.
DS just received his honors notification today. It was post-marked 12/18/15. USC was very patient with ds. He was having trouble with one of his letters of recommendation (due to an illness, despite the fact that he gave his teacher over a month notice). USC actually contacted him and extended the deadline! DS is OOS with a 34 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, varsity swimmer, and debate team for four years.
@livelovelaugh15 Yeah, I am in-state. I got mine two days after the date on the mail which said Dec. 18.
Does anyone know if finding out earlier affects you for the top scholarships?
Sorry, very late here. But from what I have heard (and read on here). Those letters postmarked 12/18 are the shortlist for McNair/Horseshoe and whatever the in state top scholarships are. I reviewed mine postmarked 12/18 with 5.2 GPA (w) and 3.9 (uw) with a 32 ACT, no sent SAT. My sister applied (and was accepted) in 2011 and got in with a Cooper Scholarship. Her letter was postmarked 12/18 but the scholarship did not come until February. I hope this helps!
Also please note. I got my “in state tuition” scholarship with my general acceptance 11/6 (I think) and my honors acceptance simply had a PS saying to look out for additional scholarship notifications later on.
@genericName115 Okay! Now I’m disappointed. I really felt like my essays would’ve helped me a lot but I guess not w/ a 3.8 gpa and 31 ACT score (I’m in-state). A kid from my school got in but he has no EC’s, he’s a decent writer, but his stats are through the roof.
@Chopinspiano According to the Honors College portion of the website, they continue to release Honors College acceptances through the end of February. My S is still waiting to hear back from the HC too.
@SALSRL Okay thanks!
I got into the Honors college and my letter was postmarked 12/18 but I don’t remember applying for any of the scholarships, just the honors college. I did receive an at least scholarship of $78,000 with in state tuition. Did the honors application serve as all of the scholarship applications or just some of them?
Your application to the university was the initial basis for scholarships. So far you have received at least in-state tuition. You will likely receive on top of that a Flinn, McKissick, or Coopers scholarship (add’l $500 - $4,000/year). If you are NMF, you also get a Lieber scholarship (add’l $6,000/year). These awards are given to a number of students, not just those in (or who applied to) the Honors College.
There are also some Departmental scholarships that you could apply for separately. Check the website or call the school to see if those deadlines have passed.
Finally, there are two scholarships that you would be invited to come to USC and interview for. I believe the invitations for these are tied to your Honors College app but I am not 100% sure on that point. If you are not invited (late Jan, early February) then you are still eligible for the additional scholarships mentioned above and you don’t have to do anything else to get them.
^^The only scholarships (other than departmental) that require additional applications are the McNair/Horseshoe for OOS and Stamps/Carolina/Hamilton for in-state - and the honors app is the application for these competition scholarships. All the others, as Lucky mentioned, are just by virtue of regular USC application and are available to all students with high enough scores/stats.
Has anyone received an honors letter postmarked in January yet? My D still waiting on honors-will they send out on a roll out basis or just another round in February?
