We have lived in SC since 1995, D has attended SC public schools since kindergarten and will be graduating from a SC public high school. I was appalled at the length of the SC Residency Certification we had to complete. Then, we receive an email today stating that she has been classified as non-resident. What?! The reason being when asked if we have a car registered in SC, we used the information from our newest vehicle which we purchased last May because we could remember the date we bought it. The form does not ask if you have had a car registered in SC for more than 12 months, only if you have a car registered in SC. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so easy for out of state students to be given in-state tuition. Anybody else have issues with the certification?

Well, they kept losing our form and telling us they didn’t have it…must have sent it 2 or 3 times. Definitely call and add info for other cars that you have had longer although I would want to talk to someone who knows what to do since I can’t imagine you can be denied residency because you don’t own a car.

I would definitely call and get it straightened out. You are clearly an in-state resident.

On the plus side, you have time to get it changed. They won’t release tuition until July and LIFE scholarships aren’t finalized until the summer.
