Hey, well when I first applied to USF, they classified me as a non-Florida resident, even though me and my family have been living in Florida for 7 years. I sent them a residency affidavit after I got accepted for Spring 2013, but now I'm wondering if the documents I gave them would actually prove my residency. Since I'm dependent, I gave them my mom's drivers license and vehicle registration number, both of which she's had for several years. The thing is that they both expired recently in June of this year, so she had to go get a new one and now the issue date shows as 6/6/2012. My question is that since the issue date shows that it was issued in 2012, will they not give me in-state tuition, even though she's had her license for 7 years and has lived in Florida the whole time?

No, the recent issue date will not prevent you from Florida residency. I’m not 100% sure, but on the residency form I believe it asked for the issue date and the original issue date. They’ll see that it has been renewed.

Alright, thank you! Also, I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for them to process the residency affidavit?

It took them no longer than a week…probably 2-3 days.

One more thing, when putting in a vehicle registration number from Florida, what number are they asking for because there are a few different numbers on the vehicle registration?

Eh…My mom filled in all the information so I can’t help you too much on that.

The vehical reg # is just your plate #

does this mean i am a resident or not “For the purposes of calculating your fees and tuition, our office has determined that your residency status is: Res Alien, Non-Fl Res(Non USA)”.

That means you’re considered an out of state student.

So it’s been two weeks since they got my residency affidavit and nothing has changed? Should I be worried and try to send it again cause this needs to be figured out before the Spring 2013 starts.

Now is the crazy busy season so it may be taking longer than normal. If you can swing by, (with your mom even better) with the docs you need (voter card, DL, registration etc) you might be able to get it cleared up in one visit. Bonus if you can go in early before they get busy.

If only it was that simple. It’s hard for us cause we live in Orlando and we would have to drive out to Tampa and I don’t know if we’re going to be able to. I called them last week and they did tell me their busy, but I’m worried that I did something wrong on the affidavit so I might need to send another and time is running out.

So disregarding my last reply completely, me and my mom have managed to plan a trip to Tampa tomorrow. I’m gunna take all the stuff I need, but what I was wondering is where do we go to deal with residency?

Hope you got it solved already, but it should be at the Registrar’s office, which is in the SVC center. Just head to the Marshall Student center, and ask for SVC, it is really close to it.

Hey, I wish I got this solved already! So I went to Tampa on Tuesday and I called to see where I needed to go, but when I called and found out where I was supposed to go and they told me, I asked how long it was gunna take to process the affidavit and they told it would take 4 weeks! Which is absolutely ridiculous cause that is when school stars and I need to have everything figured out by then. I hate how every time I call, I get different information from each person. Two of them told me it would 2-3 weeks, another told me it would take 2-5 business days, and the last one told me 4 weeks! I don’t know what to believe and it has me really worried.

Keep calling until you get a consistent answer. They might not even truly know the answer for the time being.
