SC Retains Interlocking Logo

Court rules SC logo belongs to the University of Southern California. The University of South Carolina first attempted to trademark the "SC" logo in 1997, but the University of Southern California contested it. The Supreme Court decided Monday to throw out the case which means the University of South Carolina cannot try the case again. Federal trademark law does not allow registrations that are likely to cause confusion.

Lawyers for the University of Southern California argued that "SC" had been used as the university logo for decades, while the University of South Carolina had used "Carolina" or "USC" instead.

LOL
to be fair, Carolina’s internet domain’s exactly
sc.edu

At least there’s no existing “University of Northern California”
to fight with North Carolina Heels, one less headache for the court.

Afterall there’re never more than only-26 alphabets to use combo in English.

I always associated South Carolina with the red block C with the gamecock inside.

University of Northern Colorado is referred to as UNC. Their website is [University of Northern Colorado - Bringing Education to Life - Greeley Colorado](http://www.unco.edu)

When I went to graduate school at Chapel Hill, the undergrads would get all po’d when students from the University of South Carolina referred to their school as Carolina. UNC students thought they owned the word.
