I am a freshman and interested in getting in to SCA film production. I heard they have a fall and spring admit group. Anyone know anything about the spring admits? How many do they take for spring admit and how the process works. There is lots of information on the fall admits but not much information on the spring group.

There is no separate process to apply for Spring admission. Each year USC offers Spring admission to some Fall applicants - well-qualified students that USC would love to have attend, but there isn’t room in the Fall class for them. There is some space in Spring due to mid-year graduations and students leaving for Study Abroad.

Students offered Spring admission have the option of spending the Fall semester doing a mini gap-year kind of experience, attending community college, working and saving money towards tuition… anything they want.

Again, there is no way to specifically apply for Spring - it is offered to Fall applicants.

Thank you alamemom. I read that the production cycle does not start for film majors until second semester soph year or first semester junior year. I assume those in the second semester soph year are the fall admits and those in the first semester junior year group are the spring admits? So, does SCA only take Spring admits from the HS applications? Do you know how many they take from the HS applications for spring? I think you can also apply to transfer in to SCA (change your major) as a soph right? Are those who transfer in put in the group that starts their cycle 2nd semester soph year or 1st semester junior year? Maybe I need to try to change my major to film production?

Oh! You are a CURRENT USC student! I was answering as though you were a *high-school freshman *asking about admission to USC (sorry!).

I don’t know a lot about applying to SCA as a current student (actually, I don’t know anything about it ). You might want to start a new thread with something like “How do I apply to SCA as a current USC freshman?” as the title. You will get people familiar with SCA looking in that way.

Sorry for the mixup!

wow, I just saw this and didn’t know anything about it. I thought all the spring admits were transfers. So you’re saying some of us that applied for fall 2011 freshman film prod might get accepted, but only to start in the spring?

I heard they only accept about 60 students. Do you know if that is for both fall and spring combined?

Thanks.

The fall 2011 applicant class for all of USC will generate a fairly large number of offers to begin in Spring (january) 2012, and some of those spring admits will be in the SCA. The number you’ve heard for production would very likely include only the fall admits, but probably only a few would be added in Spring.

I believe the SCA website will give you very clear guidance on when you are eligible to apply to change majors and switch into SCA. I think you can start applying in fall of Sophomore year, but that may have changed since I read the guide a couple years ago. You don’t need to worry about missing out on the class sequence; some students do the sequence later if they transfer, but they still get it done.
