SCAD and transfer credits

If you or your child has gone to SCAD and had a lot of transfer credits, how much did SCAD take?

We did the tour/open house a couple of weeks ago and one of the things that we liked was that they said they take transfer credits as long as they are either general education classes, match a class they offer, or classes they don’t offer can be used towards electives.

Did anyone have any problems getting credits to transfer?

We toured a couple of other art schools and they basically said they don’t accept anything BUT general education classes as they want students taking their art classes in their sequence, meaning that my son, with almost 60 credits, would basically start over, meaning more time and definitely more money.

I realize we can’t know for sure until we have them evaluate his transcript, but I would love to hear anyone else’s experience with this.

Thanks.

They accepted a little over half of his credits, and we are happy with that. He is going from one focus to another, so we can understand how some of it wouldn’t count.

Not accepting anything but general education classes is standard for most art schools but not set in stone. It’s college and applicant specific. You need to ask.

For ART credit transfer there is usually a portfolio review by the college that will determine what courses they’ll accept.

We already got the answer. They did take some of his art classes though. Thanks
