Scared to death of March 29th

So basically this is a chance me thing.

I applied to the Penn Engineering School.
I have a 34 ACT, 5.1 GPA, and 7th in my class (number 5 got in ED)
I have 8 varsity sport letters.
I have a bunch of community service hours and other work experiences (most of which revolve around my passions, which I made clear).
I'm part of NHS and all the other stuff that everybody has.
I think my Why Penn? essay was one of the best essays I wrote and I made sure that my Penn App was as polished as possible.

That's a pretty brief summary of my application. I was scared that enough is never enough, but then I just got a likely letter from UVA (I applied to the Engineering School as well) and I don't live in Virginia. So is that a good sign that colleges will like my application? Penn is my dream school and the next 16 days are going to be the scariest of my life. Any (honest) feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck! Your academic profile, sports, extra curriculars, and essay sound great. If you don’t mind sharing, what is your ethnicity? That does factor in.

Best of luck to you—hope you’re apart of the Class of 2016!

white male… not much help there…

Also, do you think that the UVA likely letter is a good sign indicator of how colleges see my app?

Better than Asian male, no? Since you do NOT live in VA and got a likely from UVa, I would say your app must be relatively strong. It’s really tough to get into a public school out of state, especially UVa (one that is so prestigious/good).

You definitely have a good chance. I hope you get in, because you are definitely worthy of a spot at Penn. Can you chance me back, please? I applied to The College. [Chance me even though its pointless? - College Confidential](http://■■■■■■/yAAzZY)

“Penn is my dream school and the next 16 days are going to be the scariest of my life”

I’ve been doing Ivy interviews and recruiting for +20 years. While I understand your emotion, try to distance yourself. The fact is you’ve accomplished a lot, and unless something terrible befalls you, you’ll be 99% assured of a super successful college career – Penn or not.

Ivy degree: been there, done that. It doesn’t make you who you are. I’m 100% convinced that if I hadn’t attended my HYP alma mater and instead attended UMich, Purdue or GT or Rose Hulman, I would have been absolutely fine.

Go out and have some fun. Stay off of CC until it’s time for your kids to get college info. You’ve worked hard, go get some deserved relaxatoin.

T26E4,

Thanks for the encouragement-your comments and insight are some of the best I’ve seen on CC.

I can’t help but nervously fidget each day…

That’s amazing that you have been doing so many interviews; are you a grad of Princeton/Harvard? I feel as if the only route to a top-level and top-paying job in finance and/or Wall St. would be through the connections a harvard degree opens up…I’ve gotten likely letters to Williams and Dartmouth, and I can’t imagine myself being in the same top positions coming from those schools. They are extremely impressive, but it seems that to crack the top echelons of business and finance, one GENERALLY needs a HYP degree. Sure, it’s possible to succeed as a Williams or Dmouth grad, but Harvard/Princeton just have so much to offer…

I’m disappointed because none of the top ivies-HYPCC-sent me likelies, so I’ll not be too disappointed on decision day. Do they have higher standards than, say, Dmouth, or is it simply that they look for different things/may have appreciated my profile without explicitly telling me?

14 days. oh god. I will try to relax. I don’t know how to stay motivated in school…grades are all As except for a low B in bc calc, and I don’t know how to deal with this…

I relate 100%. I haven’t slept well in weeks, and I’m just fraught with anxiety.

This wait is horrible

I can’t believe we’re only 14 days away and I don’t even know what to do with myself…

Let’s just go find somethings to distract ourselves.
I guess it’s a good thing that homeworks started filing up before the spring break. After turning in my app, I’ve been just studying certain subjects in depth and having a good time with friends and family. The worst that could happen is going to UW, which I really don’t like, but I can always look at the transfer option.

Okay, so I have also applied to Penn and after I got rejected from Columbia ed I just don’t know whether I will get into penn.
Sat score : 2140, m-750, cr-660, w- 730.
we don’t have the GPA system in our school, But i have an IB predicted of more than a 40.
i have consistently been on the highest award list in my school
House captain, many other sports, I started my magazine in the 9th, I recently published a book for social awareness which was released by the Chief Minister and was also presented to the prime minister of another country. I have also got many awards for this. i have many other social service activites and awards. i have been a part of the photography club etc…
and the rest of the normal sports and social service activites that you always take part in, along with 3 internships, 2 at a law firm and one with a photographer.
I have also been in charge of the year book and other such activities in my school.
I really want to get into Penn.
How good do you think my chances are? I’m dying of anxiety!!

LOL, now I’m extra scared.

I was just reading through my supplement and noticed my third to last line had “Northwestern” instead of “Penn”. I guess three proofreads weren’t enough…lmao woops

Hope they forgive me because the essay is pretty specific to their school!

rastogr, that’s how I feel too!
zomggg, oh no! I’m sorry. A friend accidentally wrote her “Why Duke” essay (I think it was Duke, but it a school of that caliber) and sent it to Penn (or another Ivy, I don’t remember the specifics), and she got in! I know that’s anecdotal, but your typo isn’t the end of the world. I know how you feel, I keep scrutinizing my essays, trying to find more reasons why I’m getting rejected.

Haha well that makes me feel a bit better but its still such a facepalm mistake, especially because I proofread my essay like 3 times yet missed the mistake everytime :[

IJUSTWANTAUSERNA…which review book would you recommend for the ACT that helped you get this great score?

I used ACT 36 by Barons and I really think it helped… The first time I took the ACT cold and got a 31 so 3 points was a huge improvement… I also sucked at the SAT
