im in my second year of university and im worried because i orefer classes where there are a lot of smaler assignments worth littlee amounts which was the norm for my first year classes but this year there are less assignments and everything is worth more anyone else notice that.... one class i have 2 papers 20% each a midterm 20% and a final 40%.... in another class i have quizzes/ assignments 20% labs 10% midterm 20% and exam 50%.... im sooo worried im gonna do bad on 1 and screw up my average..... also i have to exams back to back anyone ever have that?

um.....welcome to college?

I echo the previous statement.

I am now in my final year at my state university. Today I received a syllabus outlining about 7 assignments, 250+ pages of reading material for the next couple weeks, and what I already knew - that I will have to narrow down the topics for my senior history thesis using only primary documents.

I also work about 25 hours a week in addition to shooting high school sports, namely football, at least once a week.

I am barely shaking.

The moral: You'll get used to it. Tests, essays, and labs will likely be described in detail, especially if you are in lower level courses - almost to the point of annoyance. Don't worry. Have fun!

your second year was like that? My first year sociology class was three papers worth three pts each, one exam worth 30 pts, and one final worth 60 pts and everyone got a free point. Obviously, that class hurt, but tahts how its been for all my classes so far

I'm surprised your first year isn't like that.

Most of my classes have been one paper and 10% class participation. Maybe an extra 10% for some kind of weekly busy work (analytical journal of the readings, 3 NYT articles a week with analysis, etc). I actually vastly prefer it. It's less stressful for me to prepare for one exam or paper than many. Plus, my tests are exclusively essay tests which are a sinch.

all my classes have been like that. every one i took freshman year, and probably all of the ones i'm going to take my next three years.

Eh college is supposed to be like that. My Poly-Sci class is 40% midterm, 60% final. Just study and you'll be fine.

Yeah seriously. I'm just starting my second year and I've had a few classes where the whole grade was based on a few papers and a couple of exams. If you are having trouble with an assignment, go talk to your professor. That's what office hours are for.

You don't like it? I think it's awesome. Now I don't have to do stupid busy work assignments every day, I'd much rather do a few things really well then a hundred things.

I'm surprised your freshman year was like high school, that's very odd.

Pffff guys that's nothing

in my super advanced upper level quantum underwater basketweaving class, we had just one exam that was worth 12000% of our grade and it was really hard because there was just one multiple choice question but there were like 50000 choices and the average was a 28 but I got a 56 and beat the curve and got the highest grade in the class

Law School adds even more fun into the mix, now my entire grade is based on a single final exam.

yea i dunno i just have really bad test anxiety i guess lol

See if you can find out from friends how your profs' tests are. What I've found is most college exams focus more on themes and trends rather than specific facts (based on politics, history, anthropology, and economics courses). I've only had one or two exams where specific questions were asked that was not specifically described as such. The trends, at least for me, are easier as long as you do the reading and go to class- and if you have any trouble synthizing the information you go STRAIGHT to the professor.

Don't stress. If you have such bad test anxiety, maybe talk to the professors in advance. Many are really understanding.

awesome
which law school?

I'm going to Texas Tech.

I took a philosophy class this summer at community college....my grade was based on one term paper, and one final exam. That's it.

But I guess it really depends on the professor...some may give out lots of hw and make them worth points, others may not even bother with homework.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though.....just study hard and hope you do well on your exams.
