This is a list of schools that still have openings for the fall. A school can still have a limited number of openings, but not be included on the list. Last year's list was longer.

I found it interesting that some of the schools that I remember having rolling admissions are missing from the list when they weren't last year. Sounds like the general interest in boarding schools has gone up and schools are filling to capacity.

One pretty good school that is on the list is Cushing Academy. While it is not AESDCH (nobody would expect that those competitive schools would have openings), they do have a good offering and pretty decent college placement.

WRT rolling admissions, I understand that last year Eaglebrook (pre-prep) was all filled up by middle of March. Not sure about this year but probably about the same scenario.

thanks for this...a bit daunting after filling out 7 applications and essays to start this yet again but....persistence...

Well, even though the applications and essay portion wasn't my bailiwick as the parent, there's still all the legwork of setting up interviews and making travel plans, etc.

Also, if you're looking for aid, you might want to regroup and wait until next year to apply (assuming that the "window" for entering BS doesn't close for you after this year). Even if you're not looking for aid, I expect that one's chances of getting accepted at a school with rolling admissions is much improved if you come in at the front end of the process. That's something to consider if you've found that your child has submitted 7 applications without getting a hit. That suggests that maybe some recalibrating is called for.

The extra time gives you and your child a chance to reassess abilities, interests and priorities and match them to particular schools. Your search for a BS will not be so frantic and it won't be regarded as a "consolation prize" or a "parting gift" for having participated in the first round.

For some people, the timing makes sense. I'm not in any way suggesting that schools with rolling admissions are for the birds or that people should only apply on the standard timetable. Not at all. I'm looking at waitlistman and the sense of desperation and exasperation that he's conveyed here for a little over a month now...and wondering if both he and his child won't be better served by a more introspective and reflective approach to this after some time off. My impression is that there's still a sense of shock from March 10 and the exhaustion aspect is clear even today, 2 months later (actually almost 4 months now since the application process ended). Getting up to speed and finding a good match for a child if you think you're under the gun and need to find something -- anything with dormitories and classrooms -- is not apt to generate a good fit. And if the schools sense that before you do, then you could be staring back at another wave of disappointment.

Take deep breaths. Make the research process a leisurely one. Enjoy the rest of this school year and the summer. Visit campuses on weekends this summer if you have the time. And go into the fall refreshed, with a better sense of who your child is and renewed confidence that this time you're going to come out of the process with the ideal match. And, as I've said before, embrace your reality. Don't stress out over things that are out of your control. And as I look at you, waitlistman, embarking on a rolling admission search right now, I see more stress and less control. But I'm just observing you from afar and via an anonymous message board. I sure could be wrong, but if you're accurately conveying what you're thinking...a time out from the search process will probably do wonders.

My son applied to 7 schools too; 4 rejected, 3 waitlisted . We followed your advises Burbparent and tried 2 other (great but not that well known) schools as a late applicant: the 10 of april he was accepted at both! Thanks again.

Thanks. I'm very happy to hear that I helped someone! Good luck next year, and congratulations on having choices!

appreciate input--the skills and assessment of match was not far off the mark since 4 of 6 were theoretically hits- wl supposed to mean they wanted you but did not have room..that said there is a value proposition too as we did not ask for FA and this aint chump change...we probably did not do service by only going for top 10s in hindsight...we did do one late app but its hardly a lock...i agree...we will persist...fat lady did not sing yet...still only May but she seems to be warming up her pipes..lol
