SCEA and Early scholarship application

May be somebody encountered similar situation in the past.

Planning to apply SCEA, but obviously also applying other privates for RDs. The problem is, that I would like get some scholarships in places like Duke, Emory, USC. Application deadlines to be considered for scholarships are around mid-November/December 1 in most places. Is this breaking Princeton's SCEA rules? For example, Emory's scholarship application deadline falls in between their EA I and EA II deadlines. Is this then also considered to be some kind of EA application or is it RD with early deadline? It's not binding as far as I can tell, but everyone's website is very vague how to interpret it.

I emailed Princeton for clarification and never heard back from them. Because, I don't want to break the rules, but then it also means that I have no chance for any scholarship considerations elsewhere if I apply SCEA?

Any help much appreciated

I face a similar situation – I am not 100% confident but I think it is just, as you said, “RD with early deadline” as it is non-binding. We just choose RD on the Common App.

Let me know if you hear back from P-ton.

Be careful in your consideration. Emory’s Early is ED(binding), not EA(non-binding).

I called Emory, their Scholars program is not ED and not EA from Emory’s standpoint. It’s just an RD with earlier priority deadline. Not sure if it’s okay with Princeton, though, because their website states:
“You may not apply to an early program at any other private college or university”
What is their definition of “early program” is the real question.

Early action and early decision are both early programs. I believe “early” is anything prior to the regular decision date.

It should not be a problem. We are clearly applying RD under a wholly non-binding program. Can’t we turn in applications to other colleges as early as September for other private universities, under their RD plans? This is the same.

Should be fine
