SCEA applicant's top choices

Yale (my only choice) :)

Williams

Dartmouth

Brown

Yale

Needed to do EA rather than ED at other schools because of financial reasons.

Yale, then Brown & Princeton. I didn't like Harvard or Stanford. :/

Columbia, Bowdoin, Rice

Then Yale

^aha! now we get to the real meat!

this is interesting :)

I'm applying SCEA because naturally it does not bind me (financial reasons). Plus I can compare my offers to other colleges. Yale isn't the only school that is right for me... nor do I know if it is the school for me (I live too far away to visit the ivy leagues). If I do get in, I would like to visit though.

Yale

Penn

Tufts, Georgetown, Columbia, WUSTL, GW

every other school on the planet

harvard. :)

I'm only really applying to Yale because my Mom's like "hurr durr Yale's a better school than Bowdoin/Columbia name is everything"

When Yale hardly has an Earth Science/Oceanography department at all (they have more faculty than majors, I even heard that on this site).

I'd also like to go to the University of Washington - Seattle, but it's too far away from Maryland so I have to wait until grad school.

^^ See, if I knew that the major I wanted to get into at a school I might want to go to had more faculty than majors, I'd jump at the chance. More personalized attention for me! And probably more resources and (in science departments) more chances at actual research.

ironmetal...weird i'm from md too, and i'm thinking of going to University of Washington for grad school too. Seattle just seems...amazing. drool. love the pacific northwest.

anyway, i like the idea of Yale, but the truth is, it's the only one of my top school's i haven't visited so I can't really say that I'm going upon acceptance. However, unless something horrible happens on my visit/i get rejected/i get bad financial aid (which I think is impossible? my family matches profile 3 EXACTLY on their finan aid site)/i get better finanancial aid elsewhere (like WashU/Northeastern/Scripps/UMD), I'm going.

Anyway, my preference looks somewhat like this.

Yale-->Williams/WashU-->Dartmouth/Brown

I love Williams but I'm afraid of the isolation a bit (SO hard to get anywhere) and the lack of normal partying (i.e. not sitting around and drinking-how about dancing? yale has GREAT dance parties!).

Wash U was surprisingly awesome but everyone seemed a tad bland and there was a lot more self-segregation than I expected.

Dartmouth was awesome- fantastic campus, 2 of the hard-to-find majors I want, great kids, but the frat business might get tiring.

Brown I loved 2 summers ago, but when I visited for a real college visit, I realized that the buildings suck compared to most other ivies and their financial aid for upper middle class families is non-existent...I didn't really see Brown being worth 50,000.

Yale

Columbia/Princeton/dartmouth/tufts

What do you want to study?

Yale / University of Virginia

William and Mary

Princeton

Boston College / St. Mary's College of Maryland

University of Maryland, College Park

Before I enroll in Yale, I'll need to be accepted, be offered enough financial aid, and be comfortable enough with telling people for the rest of my life that I went to an Ivy League. That last one is probably the largest factor for me not to go.

(i know this isn't exactly on topic, but anyway...) i'm only applying to yale and brown ivy-wise. i pretty much hate princeton. (no offense.)

^^ Whoo! High five! If a friendship can be started on mutual Princeton-hate, then I think we have a friendship!

(But I'm also definitely applying to Columbia, and rethinking my decision to apply to Brown.)

Yale is my top choice.
But I probably won't end up there, even if I do get in, because of financial issues. And I've had to take all of my favorite schools off of my list because of the same reasons.
I envy you all. (Especially PresidentDunn--if that's your major reason for not going, I'd rather be you any day.)

edit 10char

sunshineyday, you're not alone. My dad pretty much told me I can't go to Yale but I still applied, just hoping that somehow I get more financial aid than I can expect.

^^Same! The wait right now is extra depressing because I know even if I do get in, I'll have to wait until all other offers come in anyway. Sabotaging all of my other applications has crossed my mind.
What are you doing other than Yale, then? I'm applying to lots of merit-based programs.

Yale

(large gap)

Bowdoin/Brown
Columbia
Amherst

if i can get into any of these schools, I'll be happy - but Yale is by far my favorite.
