SCEA Applicants

Guys, what are you putting down for the ACADEMIC HONORS part?

It says to "briefly describe any scholastic distinctions or honors you have won beginning with ninth grade."

List? Full sentences? List with descriptions?

On the common app? I just listed them by grade

I just listed them. I didn't put grade. Maybe I should do that. but listing makes sense for that tiny space they give you. :)

Thanks Jess and Chidimma, listing is easier anyway.

I'm halfway through my personal statement! YIPPEE!!!

good job! I officially finished mine today. I'm working on the activity one. :)

Does the school MAIL the notifications on the 15th or will we RECEIVE them by the 15th?

Well I did it by grade because I have the same award every year for a couple of awards.

As for notification, I think they post on their website dec. 15th or thereabouts, and you receive the letter shortly after.

Does anyone know how long it should take before we're contacted for interviews? And does anyone know the approximate percentage of kids that get deferred EA who end up getting in RD? Thanks!

Okay so I'm attaching an extra activity list, but do you think it's ok for it to be more than 1 sheet?? I want to provide a description of my involvement in each activity, but if I do so it takes up about a page and a half.

I'm debating whether I should attach an extra list or not. If i don't, then there will be a lot that they wont know I do. If i do, will it **** them off? Who all attached extra activity lists with theirs apps for Yale?

Oops, I forgot you cant write p-i-s-s

I attached one that's two pages. It's really pretty brief, but there was no way I was going to fit it on one page. I think everyone who's stressing about "Will they kill me if I attach a resume?!?!" is overreacting. The Yale FAQ website specifically says you should feel free to attach an extra sheet to cover ECs, but just warns that more is not necessarily better. I wouldn't worry about it.

for CSS-should we use our 2003 tax returns??? I'm so confused!

it says to use the 2004 returns if you have them, or the 2003 if you dont or something like that. if your parents' incomes havent changed in the two years it really doesnt matter, but if they did, then people like to use the one that shows them making less money. my parents dont tell me how much they make so i have no idea which form they are using.

thanks iplayoboe :)

we used the 2003 tax returns

I just can't get either of my two essays under 600 words. In fact, one is even 650 words. The extra words are not superfluous, but will this reflect poorly on my application?
Thanks.

I dont think it will. My personal essay is 820 words :). I emailed my rep expressing my concerns and he said it was ok.

They strongly stress that they would like they essays around 500 words and that essays which abuse the guideline wont be taken favorably. They arent going to sit and count the words on 18000 applications with 2 essays, but 650 is too many just by sight.

Remmiak, I think that going over the limit is OK, as long as you've got it edited as much as you possibly can. I've asked many adcom reps, and they've agreed that if it's a good essay, it doesn't matter.
