Hello, I could really use some advice.
I'm applying to Yale for SCEA, and was originally going to submit my application around mid-October.
I heard that the earlier I sent my application in, the better it is because they'll have more time to look over the application.
But I also submitted to the Siemens competition, and regional finalists aren't announced until October 20.
So I'm not sure if I should go ahead and send my application in or if I should wait until I hear the results of siemens.
Do you know if there's a way to let them know if I do end up winning siemens after I have already sent in my application?
Another problem is that my counselor told me that she won't finish early application recommendations until October 30, which worries me.
I heard that colleges won't even look at your application until all parts have been submitted.
Even if I do end up sending my application on the 20th, I still feel like that's better than the 30th
My counselor also left for some reason and won't be back until late October.
I have no idea how to get in touch with her because the only email I have from her is her school email, and I don't think she'll check it while she's gone.
I had emailed her a while ago, asking if it'd be possible for her to have my rec written earlier, but I haven't received a response.
So I'm just very confused right now as to what I should do about this general situation.
Any advice will be appreciated!
Thanks!

“I heard that the earlier I sent my application in, the better it is because they’ll have more time to look over the application.”

Theoretically yes, but it’s not as if they will actually SPEND more time looking at your file than one gets completed (i.e. all LORs, score reports, school reports, etc.) on Nov 10th.

Accept the fact that there are things outside your control (leave your GC in peace) – but they won’t hinder a full reading of your file. Your first assumption is just incorrect.

As for accomplishments achieved after you submit, just send an email to New Haven.

Colleges won’t look at your application until they have received your transcript, Secondary School Report and teacher recommendations – otherwise they would reading your Common App out of context with just your essays, EC’s and self-reported test scores to go by. So, it doesn’t matter when you send in your part of the application, it matters when your school sends in their part. FWIW: My son and daughter’s high school doesn’t submit their part to colleges until the last week of October, so I imagine it’s the same at many high schools.

As your GC won’t be back to late October, and you won’t know about Siemens until October 20th, I would send your application in the last week of October. Many students (including my son) are accepted to Yale even when they submitted their application at the last possible minute, so it should not be an issue.

SCEA deadline is November 1. Nothing to be gained by sending it in earlier than that. I would wait for your results.
