I currently a junior in HS. I have decided to apply early to one of these schools. My stats are phemonial and i have an amazing hook. My SATs were 1510 and I'm deciding on my SAT IIs. I want to major in Government/Political Science. I have aspiartions to go to a law school esp. Yale/Columbia. Which one can apply to and receive a phenomonial education and I know mes profs. Name recognition is less important but has some weight in my decision. BTW, I cant stand intro classes larger than 55+. I am also considering Amherst, Williams, and Swarthmore

One of the things that I disliked about HYS (don't know much about u chicago or g-town) is that intro classes are NOT small, and that they have TAs. Personally, I just can't see spending $40,000+ /year for that. I think the LACs have a lot to be said for them in that area, or schools that at least give merit aid in addition to large lectures.

I'm not sure you can call a "1510" SAT score 'phenomonal.'

Also, what do you mean by "extraordinary hook" ?

Chicago has very small classes, but it is know as a tough grader, so your GPA could end up lower than at the grades inflation schools, making it more difficult for law school, where I think grades are key. But I do know that med schools know this about Chi and will take into consideration.

lol 1510 phenomenal, it's good but i mean...

Be sure to check your spelling on your apps.

I see you are a URM, so you're golden with a 1510 - very few URMs have scores that high.

And did you pick Amherst, Swarthmore, and Williams ONLY because one magazine ranked them 1,2,and 3? There are plenty of excellent LACS with small classes, great departments in your area of interest, etc. You shouldn't limit yourself.

I also agree with the poster above. Don't send apps that say "aspiartions" and "phenomonial", or that have sentence fragments ("Which one can apply to and....). Not being mean; adcoms take this kind of sloppiness seriously.

RE: application sloppiness: I echo what nedad says re spelling mistakes, etc. It is not that adcoms think the student can't spell, but that they did not take the time & care necessary to put their app. together and review it before submission. That is never a favorable impression.
