SCEA questions

When you are deferred, are you considered 100% just like all other RD applicants again come RD, or are you in a separate "Deferred" pile?

i think you’re considered an RD applicant. but there’s probably a tag that you’re a defer somewhere.

What do you mean “considered 100%” like RD applicants? Will they re-read your entire folder? Probably not. Redundant, no? I’m sure they would have noted items of interest and then place that in the context with the other competitive RD files.

t26e4 -
i meant the application is compared to the RD pool.

Oh - so once you’ve been deferred, you’re not really a “fresh” applicant during RD. They know that they have looked over yours once already…couldn’t this either lower or higher a deferee’s chances, somewhat? For example, the sense of novelty from a “fresh” RD applicant might tip the leaning point, or the other way around - the sense of familiarity from a EA deferred applicant might get in. Maybe I’m overthinking…

I have no “proof”, but my gut feeling is that when you are deferred to the RD round, your application is looked at in the same light as those applicants who only apply RD, no better and no worse.

I agree with entomom, I think you’re evaluated against the pool of all the RD people. They might make a note that they’ve looked at your profile ED, but it shouldn’t affect your chances either positively or negatively.

I agree, to downgrade someone application because the person apply early seem unfair and unjust. Moreover, if I were a college admission person, I kind of think that applying early shows interest and desire for the school.
