Schedule problems; Need help!

Hi,
I just got my Penn fall schedule in the mail yesterday, and it has a number of changes on it that I did not request. And several of the classes listed say they are for no credit/no grade. And oddly, I have a Math recitation, but no Math class, and Chem, but Chem lab is now gone.

Not sure where to begin. I had the schedule pre-approved by my advisor and submitted with his blessings.

Not sure what happened, nor how to fix.

Advice welcome [and of course I will also contact my advisor].

Thanks!

[some of the classes also have notations that say 'section closed, moved to ..'

go on penn in touch and start registring for classes you don't have. classes like math lecture are not for grades because you get your grade in recitation. don't stress it too much, just find 4 classes you want to take and go from there.

also, if you don't have chem lab contact the professor and ask to get on the waitlist if that's started yet.

Lots of schedules end up messy with advance registration. It should be an open add/drop period now so just go in and patch things up.

Great. Thanks so much. Working on it now. Trying to make things fit, but really tough. I actually have 5.5 credits that I'm needing to fit. Five are set, but need the Chem Lab, too. It will be a bit rough, time wise, but I need to do it this semester. Thanks a lot for the advice.

hate to break it to you, but chem labs are pretty difficult to get into after freshman advance registration.

but not impossible. the chem department as a policy that if you miss the first lab somebody else can take your spot. my advice to you would be to attend the beginning few minutes of as many lab classes you can and try to grab an "open" spot. also check penn intouch frequently to see if anybody dropped their lab. generally most people do their dropping after the first class.

funny (and relevant) story: i overslept my first chem lab and almost lost my spot. thankfully my roommate had a very late night out. he was still a little tipsy, and made so much noise that I woke up at 9:30.

I have a few friends in SEAS who didn't take Chem 53 first semester. They pushed it back to second semester and are fitting 54 in somewhere else. You can work around stuff. Remember, you have 4 years to get through your requirements, so don't worry if it doesn't work out 100% right now. In my chem 53 class I had two super seniors (MEAM and ESE majors) who pushed back Chem 101 and 53 as far as they could because they didn't want to take it until they 100% had to.

Thanks, Venkat. I'm realizing that now. Still hopeful to get in a lab, but if not I'll figure it out. Thx again.

Ha. Too funny, Abhim. I just got a nice new alarm clock that hopefully will prevent oversleeping, though that usually is not a problem. Thanks for the advice. I've contacted the professor(s) and will see if I have a chance to get in. Should know soon.

ps: Sorry for the delay. Didn't realize I had messages. Will have to change my CC settings or something.
