Scheduling Advice

My final semester of high school started today, and I've run into a bit of a problem with one of my classes.

Just for reference, the school I go to runs on a system of seven periods. You can have classes that take up one period for 45 minutes, or two consecutive periods for a total of 90 minutes. Therefore 90 minute ones usually only last one semester.

I signed up for AP Physics C for this year, and learned that it was going to be a 90 minute class for the second semester. I was a bit worried about passing the AP test as of then, but figured things would end up okay if I worked hard enough. Now, upon my first day of "AP Physics C" I know I'm screwed. My class is mixed in with AP Physics B students (3 C students, 12 B students), whom the teacher seems to be focused on teaching, added to the fact that he blatantly told us that he hasn't even done calculus in over 15 years. We were also told that frequently, the C students would just go to the library as he would teach B material that did not apply to us.

Realizing now that I am not going to pass the AP test no matter what I do, short of studying independently, which I don't have time for, and I'm not even going to be taught what I signed up to learn, I want to drop the class. I'd prefer to have a study hall or interning period or simply leave early. The problem is that my school does not allow students to drop academic classes for non-academic classes. I'm currently taking three other AP classes (Government, Economics and Literature) and have already taken and passed AP Calculus AB and BC.

Do you think I have a legitimate argument to get myself out of this "class", if I was to take it up with a guidance counselor or principal?

Is there another class you can take instead of this one?

Seems legit to me. You should at least try.

Not learning is definitely a legit excuse…

I honestly have no idea whether or not there’s another class that I could take. Definitely not an academic one, and I’m not so sure about electives either. I’m hoping I can either rearrange some of my current classes to fit something in or just get a filler class.

I was actually looking forward to this class too lol.
