My D and I are trying to figure out her schedule for her junior year but we can’t agree on a few things. Due to a few B’s her freshman year she now has ~3.8 GPA, but is currently able to keep straight A’s (with 3 college level classes). For those who don’t known AICE is college level like AP/IB and at our school they are all the same rigor.
Her choice:
Honors Pre-Calc
AP Stats
AICE Environmental Management
AICE Economics 1 AS
AICE US History A
AICE Global Perspectives & Research AS (really hard and heavy workload research class)
AICE English Literature AS
My suggestion:
AICE Mathematics AS
AP Environmental
AICE Economics 1 AS
AICE US History A or US History Honors
AICE Global Perspectives & Reseatch AS
AICE English Literature AS
Fine art
I believe that with her schedule she’ll get burt out. This is because she’ll have 2 math classes in a day, who are both accompanied with bad teachers and tons of homework, and no “fun” class. In my personal opinion a “fun” class is necessary as she doesn’t do many ECs and it’s a way to put a smile on your face between all those hard classes. As well, AICE Environment has a big experiment to do home through out the year which I know she will be stressed about cause she is a procrastinator and is really lazy at times.
Her problem with my schedule is that she’ll have to take AICE Math 1, which is the higher level of precalc; covers all of precalc + half a year of calc and of course, it gives college credit. The teacher is probably the best math teacher in school and does not give as much homework as precalc. She doesn’t want to take this class ‘cause some of the kids that have picked on her are going to be in the class and she dreads them; however, there is no guarantee they’ll be in the same class. As well, her current math teacher does not like her, which has led to the teacher speaking to the AICE math teacher about my D in not a positive way.
She also does not believe that she is clever enough for the class cause she’s has a 95% in Alg 2 Hon, while other are in Pre-AICE Alg 2 Hon (the class made to prepare for AICE Math and according to her have a 95% and above) but I think she can do it.
With my choice of schedule she’ll have to take AP environmental which is an easy class but gives a lot more homework however, there’s no experiment that she has to do outside of school, which is a big plus. As well her fine art could be her relaxing class.
Which schedule should we go for? She said she’s fine with either she’s just worried.
If neither what is the best combination?
