Scheduling - Likelihood of ENGRI 1200 class opening up and/or Freshman Writing seminar fall changes?

Any ideas on chances a seat might open up in a 40 person ENGRI class (with four 10 person lab sections) before FWS Freshman Writing Seminar ballot is due? Or chances of a slot opening in the fall?

Daughter might have preferred ENGRI 1200 Nanonscience but it filled up and has no waiting list. That’s TR. She has backup ENGRI 1110 on MWF for now. Due to other labs etc ideally FWS would flip to MWF if she could get into ENGR 1200.

Also, can students switch to a different FWS in the fall? Especially if the FWS that’s picked for her winds up in the desired ENGRI 1200 timeslot? Or she should just avoid that timeslot on her FWS ballot, to leave open the possibility to swap? (But it seems like sometimes students don’t get any of their FWS ballot choices anyway?)

I would suggest just avoiding any unwanted timeslots in your FWS ballot at all. Your FWS should probably be of the least importance in making your schedule. Arrange everything else first and fill in any remaining times with your FWS.

It is possible to switch to a different FWS in the fall, but I believe most start completely full, so you can only switch to one that somebody else dropped. So you may end up having to switch into a FWS of no interest to you.

I would say that students almost always get into a FWS that was on their list. Both of mine were my second choice, I believe.
