For my phase I earlier this week, I signed up for ESPM 114 (Wildlife Ecology) as numerous people told me it was a decent way to satisfy the biological science breadth. But just now as I was looking over my schedule for next semester I noticed this class had a prereq of 'upper division or graduate standing' and I have neither of those things, though I'm currently enrolled in an upper division class for this fall. But, Telebears let me sign up for this...

So, am I not going to be able to take this class under any circumstances? Or could I talk to an advisor and sort it out? I'm looking for a replacement class to take but this fit my schedule so it'd be nice if I could keep it... Agh, I'm so upset that I didn't notice this problem before...

As far as I know, that class doesn’t really enforce the pre-req. If you’re in, you’re in. If you are still worried about it, try emailing Dr. Brashares and asking him how that works.

Once you’re in on Telebears, the ball is in the instructor’s court. Short of a few exceptions, s/he’s the one with final say on who’s in the class. If you’re in on Telebears, then you’re not part of that exception.

The main thing is to be prepared to be dropped if there is someone with the prereqs that really wants to take the course.

I didn’t even think of emailing, I’ll do that! Hopefully it works out. Thanks!

Just for future reference for anyone that looks into taking this class in the future, I emailed the professor and he said the prerequisite is neither necessary nor enforced, and many first and second year students take the class.
Such a relief! I was really worried about messing up my planned schedule over this.
