Scheduling Questions (did not attend CalSo)

So, I'm an out-of-state fall admit (EECS major) that couldn't attend CalSo, and need some help with my online scheduling/orientation. =)

1: For the Humanities requirement, I read that I need to take a minimum of six courses, with each course having 3 or more credits. I took AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics just last May, both 2.7 credits, and am wondering if they count for this Humanities requirement?

2: What about AP US Government? Does that count as a Humanities course??

3: So far, I have three classes planned for first semester.

CS61A
Math 53 (exempt from Math 1A, and I'm sure 1B)
Chinese (wanted to take a language in college, not sure which level yet)

...How many classes is recommended for the first semester? And what should my 4th class be? (should it be a Humanities course, R&C, a seminar, or Physics 7A?)

Thank you for the help! Just wish I could've been there at CalSo too. lol

These questions are best directed at your college advisor. You can find out who they are online and send them an email.

That said, if I recall correctly, AP Microeconomics + AP Macroeconomics, together, count as one course for H/SS. AP US Government does not go towards the requirement unless paired with AP Comparative Government.

The amount of courses you take for your first semester depends on how heavy of a courseload you are planning in the future (eg. do you plan on doing a joint major / double major / simultaneous degree). The usual guideline is 14 units: three rigorous 4-unit classes, two of them technical, and one seminar. This will allow you the time to explore / settle-in on campus instesad of overloading you with work all day. Yet, everyone’s abilities are different. The general rule is that 1 unit = 1hr time in-class + 2hr outside = 4hr total time per week. So, a 14-unit schedule means you’re expected to dedicate 42hr/wk to your studies.
