I didn’t even follow my schedule during all of my first year. i ended up skipping a some lectures and doing a lot of self-study instead. happens a lot with math and physics classes.

No, actually loading classes one day and having free days on the others can be great. After all, that gives you solid blocks of time to think about the material presented. However, you need to make the call after actually going to your classes – 3 classes in a day may be tougher to absorb. You might want to do things like spending your other two days previewing lecture material a bit, so that you can really get everything out of lecture.

Your schedule looks fine. I realized that it doesn’t matter much for lectures as much as for discussion. My first semester I had the same as you 3 MWF and 1 TTH. MF were fine, but not W since I had a lab and two discussions. I like to revolve my schedule around my discussion/lab times so I can spread those out and not be overworked.

Your first day with a lab will naturally seem long and unbearable, but after a bit you get used to it. I don’t anybody who only had lab on a day and no lecture. For chem 1A lab I had math lecture from 8-9, discussion from 9-10, chem lecture from 11-12, chem lab from 1-5pm and a decal from 6-7. The first day was hell, but after a while i got used to the rhythm of things. For 3A (1A labs are a joke compared to 3A) I had chem 3a lecture from 8-9:30, NST lecture from 10-11 and lab from 1-5 and thought it was doable…the killer part is staying awake for chem lecture at 8am.

For Chem 1A the lab (when i took it) was step up so that the first hour was like a discussion where the GSI goes over briefly the material learned in lecture and than gives out a quiz at the end just to make you pay attention in discussion. The lab portion in reality is not that bad, time goes by so quickly and you might find yourself wishing for more time while doing the lab. Your suppose to think about the “chemistry” while doing the lab, but you are really just following instructions, collection numbers and data and than the real pain, IMO, is the lab write up where you have to look at the data and make sense of it in terms of how it applies to chemistry. In 1A it was much easier because you just had to answer a couple of questions. Just be thankful because 3A/3B labs are much savage and laugh at the face of 1A. 3A has unannounced quizzes and EVERY lab is a lab write up being around 2 pages of CONCISE chemistry information and than questions…and than a conclusion. Ugh! I don’t wanna start 3BL in the fall =/
