Can I take a college physics class in high school, and then not have to take physics in college???

And if I can, would that look bad in the eyes of med school admissions?

dude, are you talking about ap physics b/c?

It's best to take all your pre-med required classes at a 4 year university. Keep in mind that most med schools do not accept AP credit for filling those requirements. You can use, them but would need to take a higher level course later on.

^^^ which could hurt your GPA, but allow you to be very smart and ahead of other students if you study hard.

No it's not an AP class, at my high school we are aloud to take college classes when your a senior.

It's not AP bigredmed, it's an actual university class. I live in Erie, Pennsylvania and the school that I go to allows us to take a course at Gannon University for physics. So it would be a college course, and would give me college credits. Does that look fine then in the eyes of admission at med schools, since it is an actual university?

I don't believe it goes on my gpa. It's a college class that is AFTER school. MONDAY,WEDNESDAY,FRIDAY from 5:30-6:30 Physics and then TUESDAY from 330-530 Physics lab.

I just want to get a couple med school requirements out of the way for my freshman year at college, so that it wont be as stressful

woops, I thought you were talking about taking AP Physics, score 4-5, receive credit, and then decide to enroll into adv. courses in college, which could hurt your GPA, since the course would be more difficult. However, I apologize for misreading the post. Yes. If your not deciding to take any APs and instead take college courses while in high school ( i seen many students do that at my school), it wouldn't hurt your med. school admissions at all as long as you keep your GPA in college high. Overall, you will be ahead of completing your prequisites for med. school admissions. Go for it, I'm taking college courses right after my senior year graduation during the summer.

RHSstudent07- Ya the classes that i'm taking in college are all after school, so I'm stilling taking all my high school credit classes. I think I might also take a couple classes in the summer, english prob. since colleges require that you take one english class in college. What classes do you think your going to take during the next summer?

Just want to be clear: is this a college class held on a college campus? Or is the class held at your high school?

If it is held at the high school, no, it won't count. If you are taking it at a college campus, AND if you do not receive high school credit for it (but you do receive college credit for it...- can't get both - ) you should be able to use it towards your premed requirements. Just don't take too many premeds this way - the vast majority should be at your 4 year institution.

It's on a college campus, and I don't get high school credit, I get college credit. I just wanted to get one of my premed requirements out of the way so I wouldn't be overwhelmed my freshman year. I might also take a college english class in the summer as well... Would that be alright since it's really not a science class?
