<p>Hi I have been looking at Washington University St. Louis recently and I have a few questions of the scholars program. I plan on doing pre-med, does the scholars program mean direct medical meaning I could do everything in 6 years? Also, how hard is into the scholars program? </p>
<p>This is just a general question, is Washington University a relaxing experience yet at the same time somewhat vigorous in what is gained?</p>

<p>WashU is not a "relaxing" experience - especially not for premeds. (If you want a relaxing experience, go on vacation ;)...)
It has a friendly non-competitive atmosphere, but it will not be easy.</p>
<p>Scholars program for the medical school is extremely competitive, and only guarantees an acceptance to WUSTL medschool if you maintain a pretty high GPA, and get a pretty high MCAT score (I don't remember the exact numbers). It is still a good deal, as other students with the same numbers can easily be rejected, but it is not the same as some other schools, where if you are accepted into the program you go all the way through medschool with no additional requirements.</p>
<p>Regarding the University Scholars program and medical school - it's not like guaranteed admission into WashU med school...</p>
<p>You need to maintain a 3.8 GPA and (I think) get a 34 on the MCAT. I'm absolutely sure about the GPA portion but not that sure about the 34--I DO know that it is a VERY high score on the MCAT that is a prerequisite before they let you into WashU med school.</p>
<p>And I believe it is quite competitive to be a premed at WashU, where you'll be among the majority of freshmen who are aspiring physicians. Someone told me 85% of incoming freshmen put down premed as their intended majors...that stat alone really surprised me!</p>
<p>I very much doubt that 85% of freshmen start as premed. </p>
<p>But all the other numbers sound about right...</p>
<p>Somebody was wrong, never 85% of an incoming class put down pre-med. Read the facts brochure, there are the real numbers and pre-meds are among all the other ArtSci students.</p>
<p>I will tell you that after the first semester, that number starts to really drop.</p>
<p>i've heard is 3.8 and a 36 on the MCAT from my friends that are USP. But WashU med is the ranked as one of the very best medical schools in the nation.
and WashU premed (especially chemistry classes both gen and orgo) is very very hard. Some say the hardest in the nation. But is not uberelitist like other colleges can be (I've heard Hopkins is super bad for example) pre-med is not a major btw.</p>
<p>Well, as a future USP scholar in medicine in the c/o '12, I guess I could answer any questions prospects have about the program. The requirements are a 3.8 gpa and 36 MCAT, which sounds very intimidating, but from what I have heard from current USP students, is not impossible, and the program provides you with great advising. Pretty much all of the students that I have met are doing research or have done some within the past year or so. </p>
<p>In regards to how hard the program is to actually get into, it is very competitive. I do not think they have a set number that they accept each year, but I think it's around 20 students invited to campus for interviews and 5 selected for the program, though there is an alternate list as most students invited to interviews get admitted to just about every school they apply to, and several turn down the offer.
