I got my email a little bit ago and am very excited!

I'm a bit nervous to miss two days of school--but whatever! I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Did anyone go last year? How was it?

Who else is going? :)

Who else is going? :)

im going!!! im excited. i went for the diversity weekend in september so im excited to go back!

Oh cool! How was the diversity weekend?

it was good!! i really liked the school and i loved the sun!
we got to know the campus, sit in on classes, and meet students!

Sounds fun! Yeah I’m pretty excited. My dad keeps being like, “You know that this doesn’t mean you’re getting a merit scholarship for sure.” What a Debbie Downer! I’m just happy to be going.

Come on, I know there are more of you out there! :D

Scholars weekend is a lot of fun. They are prepared to spoil you guys with food and tea and dessert, so take advantage of it. You’ll have a chance to meet dozens of Scripps students who are merit scholars and make-up all the volunteers for the weekend. And you have an “interview” with a faculty member, which sounds daunting, but I assure you it’s just a nice discussion.

quomodo, your dad is definitely right, and an invitation to scholars weekend does not even guarantee that you will be accepted to Scripps (unless you’re ED and already holding an acceptance letter). But the weekend is exciting all the same. It’s a great way to get to know the campus, as well as the other prospective Scripps students. I was really impressed by the cohort of prospective merit scholars on my weekend, and we all had such a great time together.

@Eternal Icicle - do you know how common it is for someone who is invited to Scholars Weekend not to get accepted? and is it because they get a poor midyear report, or not show up for the weekend?

One has to assume if they invite you to the weekend, they are impressed with what they see, so far.

anotherparent- It’s pretty uncommon, as far as I know. Some students are just not able to come for the weekend, and that’s not a reason. From what I’ve heard, it does have more to do with slipping grades or other red flags that may appear later in the process. I think it’s good for students to keep in mind, because their behavior over the course of the weekend will certainly impact whether or not they are considered for a scholarship, and in more extreme cases, behavior may cause reconsideration of admission, generally. (ex. engaging in illegal behavior)

Thanks, Icicle - that is what I figured. I think my daughter is in. Her mid year grades were actually higher than her previous grades, and she generally makes a positive impression on people. :-)

I love Scripps. You are all very fortunate to go to such a wonderful school.

I’m attending. I’m ridiculously excited about it.

I applied RD, so I’m being like your dad quomodo; I keep telling myself it’s possible I won’t be accepted, or be able to afford it.

Yeah I applied RD too.

I got a mailing from them today with a Scripps luggage tag. The idea is that girls going to scholars weekend might end up on the same flights and be able to recognize each other via luggage tag.

I like it; I have a really long flight, and I was fully planning on lurking all teenage girls on the flight in hopes of finding a potential Scrippsie. So if you received one go attach it to your bag and look for me when flying out of FL or if you’ve a layover in Dallas. I have medium-brown hair, glasses, and a book in hand, oh and a sage and white tag on my bag. I promise I’m a good travel partner; I’m used to traveling alone, I’m friendly but willing to be quiet and let you do some homework/sleep/look out the window, and I maintain good personal hygiene.

Still excited to meet you all and see Scripps.

Sperra,

My daughter is a current freshman and attended the scholars’ weekend last year. Yes - you are exactly right about the luggage tag! My daughter flew through Dallas - as did many other students - and the luggage tags made it easy for everyone to connect with each other. There were about 20-30 girls on her flight from Dallas to CA. Enjoy! My daughter loved it!

I got the luggage tag too! Did you guys get the email from Jackie confirming your travel reservations? I had called her earlier to set up my flight info, but I never received an email… Should I call again do you think?

I received an e-mail maybe two days after calling her to set it up. She got back to me very quickly when I e-mailed about a question, however the letter says call her so at this point I’d just call.

Well I called her and it got cleared up…

Haha this thread/sub-forum is so dead. :(

Judging from my daughter’s few texts to me, she is having a wonderful time!
