Scholarship Facts

There are 4 levels of Scholarships at UMD

The first is the Banneker/Key Scholarship and it is limited to Honors College students. Here is what the B/K web site states

“Every year about 400 Banneker/Key Semifinalists are invited to campus in the spring for an interview before the 250 finalists of the full Banneker/Key are selected.
There are two award levels for Banneker/Key Scholarships. The first award level covers the cost of tuition, mandatory fees, room and board, and a book allowance each year for four years. The second award level provides $8,000 towards tuition and a book allowance for in-state students or $12,000 towards tuition and a book allowance for out-or-state students”

That is a TOTAL of 400 scholarships awarded to students admitted to the Honors College.

Next is the President’s Scholarship. This is what that website states

“The Presidents Scholarship program is the Universities largest with awards ranging from $2,000 to $12,000 per year. Recipients are identified through evaluation of the admission application materials. Academic achievement, extracurricular activities, awards, honors, and an essay are the criteria reviewed.”

It does not state how many are awarded. I would guess 400 to 800, but I really have No idea,

Now we’re up to 800 to 1,200 scholarships awarded

Next is the Dean’s Scholarship. Their web site states

“Approximately 400 students each year receive this award. Dollar amounts range from $1,500 for one year to $4,500 a year for two years”

Now we have a total of 1.200 to 1,600 scholarships awarded among ALL of the students admitted from the Priority applicant pool.

How many were Priority accepted? 8,000… 10,000… I don’t know…

Finally, there are College and Departmental Scholarships. These tend to be smaller. I don’t have info on them, but I didn’t look for it.

Also, there is Financial Aid. Here is a link for that

From what I can tell, Financial Aid at UMD, and most Public Universities, is just the Standard Federal Student Loans. There may be Grants included as well.
