Banneker/Key, Scholarship, etc.

What are the various scholarships given out from College Park besides Banneker/Key? What are the requirements for Banneker/Key

presidential, deans, and other departmental scholarships...i think the only requirement for banneker/key is to file your application before the dec. 1 deadline

What are these various scholarshpis? The only one I know is banneker/key which is a full ride.

presidential is anywhere from 5grand to full tuition, deans is anywhere from 1500 to 5000 and the departmental scholarship vary but i don't think they get higher than 2000...what are your stats?

im a junior right now.
At end of Jr. Year (I calculated my stats based on projected grades):

3.96 UW GPA
4.63 Weighted GPA
Rank: 9/391(currently, I might drop, might go up, who knows. I had a 4.66 as of end of soph. year but gpa at least will drop)
SAT: 2250 780 Math 760 CR 710 Writing (Might retake)
SATIIs: Haven't taken yet

My offer was 5K Presidential and 6K Department.

B-K is for the top 200 students per year. Of course, not all of them accept. I sent my son's $200 deposit in and it was refunded - they really mean tuition, all fees, and room and board, plus up to $1000 for books. If you are also a Maryland Distinguished Scholar, you also get up to $3000 for "supplies." (I'm thinking laptop and printer and monitor, have to check).

Will you be NMF? I think that helps as well, as do some very strong ECs, service, and evidence of leadership. The selection committee is looking for highly intelligent and academically accomplished students whose talents will be used to make an impact on the world (their words). If you have demonstrated dedication, service orientation, and they can infer some positive impact on your school or other people, it would be a plus. Whereas, if you had perfect grades and test scores but were not very strong in these other areas, it would probably not be a plus. They do interview all of the final candidates before making their selection.

What is NMF?

Yulsie..your son accepted and you sent in a deposit and changed mind?
Where is he going? NMF = national merit finalist.

oh, unfortunately I'm not a national merit finalist. My PSAT was pretty bad compared to my SAT.

My D. was an honorable mention NMF for art and academics which equaled no money but at least she got to apply to any school in MD for free ..
She just won a large private scholarship ..we found out last Monday! WOOOOHHOOOO!

GREAT, which one? Congratulations!

No, they sent back the deposit because they cover all fees - I was surprised.

Oh..good for you! I would prefer not to reveal which scholarship for her privacy.
