I was accepted into CSE back in November, and i have not received any scholarships or been admitted into honors. I have a 34 ACT and 3.95 GPA, should i expect to receive anything or is it too late.
@FutureCSEStudent, we have the same question you do with similar stats.
My understanding from talking to UMN and reading past posts on here is that scholarships are doled out through March. Maybe not much chance after that (?) I would call and ask them when you may hear and what you can do to bolster your case. They do seem responsive and helpful. IT’s also a chance to demonstrate your continued interest.
I think we have called at least twice and emailed once and the answer is always very non specific about scholarships, they must have some rubric based on stats posted so far, I wonder if GPA and rank wins over ACT and rigour in the OOS scholarships?
My scholarship came with my acceptance package(OOS). I was at a U event recently and asked one of the admissions counselors if there was any chance that I would get more scholarship money. Her response was that whatever came with my acceptance was all that I would get unless I got a departmental scholarship.
I am in Alaska and I just got my scholarship notification the other day. They granted me in-state tuition.
My son’s friend has a 35 ACT and high GPA (not exactly sure what it is, just know he’s a good student) - lots of APs and strong ECs (though UMN is more stats-driven). He was disappointed in his scholarship amount and called them. They told him that the CSE applicant pool was very strong this year - the avg CSE honors admit had a 35 ACT! He took this as “don’t expect more”, but not sure he should have taken it that way. I would still hold on through March and keep letting the U know how interested you are in going there. Send them anything positive that happens this year as a way of letting them know that you’re still very interested. In past years, they gave scholarships through March. If you look over past years posts, there doesn’t seem to be any predictable pattern in scholarships from UMN unfortunately. Good luck!
Update: I just received the Iron Range Scholarship worth 2,000 a year. I am still hoping to receive more.
I have same question as OP! Was admitted to CSE in November. 32 ACT (34 math), 4.26 GPA, top 10%, I’m oos so thought I would get one of the oos merit scholarship but have heard nothing yet. I contacted admissions and they said “most scholarship offers have gone out”, but that I could submit mid-year transcript, which I did last week. Very humbling.
