Scholarship Letter Questions

I am wondering. My ds got a letter saying he was going to get at least $2,000 plus OOS wavier. He got into honors. Does anyone have any idea how many kids get each scholarship level? I just wondering on the odds of it ending up being more than that. Also I am wondering if anyone got a letter with a different 'at least' amount than $2000 plus OOS wavier.
Thanks

It seems that eveyone that got the letter got the same 2K amount. I think that the fact that he already got his honors letter is a good sign. I heard that the honors letters go out to the top kids first. Good luck.

Are stats really high? NMF? Invitations to interview for McNair haven’t gone out yet and Leiber for National Merit finalist come as separate letters. They may distribute awards when they get a more final pool of honors students and you can have students with merit scholarship worthy stats who, for whatever reason, did not apply to honors but would still be a part of scholarship pool.

@scmom12 any thoughts on committing before scholarships r out would affect $ amount received?

^^I’m don’t think your final $ offer is affected by when you accept (I can’t swear to it, just my opinion), but for us we wanted to see final money offers from all schools D wanted to attend…some of which we didn’t see until mid-April. We committed on last day possible:) From a stress standpoint I would not recommend this!! If you have a guidance/college person at your school she/he might know “what goes on behind the scene” answer to that based on experience.

If you have been accepted to honors, committing early doesn’t affect anything from a practical standpoint…you are guaranteed housing and I don’t know any freshmen honors who didn’t get in honors dorm (in fact one of D’s friends in Capstone program got in honors dorm with a friend who requested her and I don’t think they’d have dispaced a SCHC kid for that). At some schools, getting in line for housing would be an incentive. Now until you’ve actually committed to USC, you can’t sign up for orientation which does affect you since you have a better selection of classes the earlier you go…so the date orientation reservations open up would be one to keep an eye on.
