I may have missed another thread, but when does anyone know when notifications for merit-based scholarship offers (Banneker-Key, for example) are sent out? DD was accepted w/CP Scholars offer. We're in Texas and won't be able to send her there without significant aid... She has a great offer from ASU, but we're keeping our options open............

This is from the U Maryland website:

"Admission decision letters are mailed by mid-February and merit scholarship award notifications begin in mid-March and continue through early April."

Last year's letters were dated March 15th.

thanks for the quick answers

For B-K, students are invited to the campus for interviews. Interviews take place over about 3 different days. Can't remember when the invitations are mailed out, but they took place before March 15 last year. B-K awardees are notified before April 1. There is an earlier thread on this topic from last year. You can get an idea of what stats/achievements/etc B-K awardees had last year, and what the interview process was like. I believe it varies, depending on who interviews you. Both my son and daughter were awarded B-Ks, and their experiences with the interviewers differed significantly.

Do you remember some of your son's daughter's stats? Would you also tell me where that old thread on B-K interviews?

I didn't apply for financial aid, so I never submitted a FAFSA. One of my friends told me that Maryland must have my FAFSA on file to receive any kind of merit aid. Is this true?

Not true for merit aid.

ok thanks thats what I thought.

Here's that old thread on the Banneker Key. It looks like the first notifications went out in Feb. Keep your fingers crossed!
