Are there scholarships (major ones) to get after freshman year?
unfortunately there are not many scholarships you can get after freshamn year. You will find this with most private schools who do the scholarships at the beginning. RA’s do get free room and board roughly $15,000 and treated like a scholarship. The student senate also gives away scholarships - but they are like 3000 for one semester. Some exist in every school and you need can apply for them - they are generally need based. Hope this helps - contact your admission counselor if you have any further questions!
@jamesk2014 Thank you for your help! Is the application for an RA hard? I am quite considering it if I go to SMU (I do want to room with friends but still want to have the RA experience. My SMU tour guide when I visited was an RA, and I like helping people.)
not a difficult application, it is mostly interview based and obviously based on the need. Generally they look for leaders in the community - those at every event and helping run the events. Sorry I can’t be of more support on this topic, I was never an RA. I did have many friends do it though and a great way to grow yourself!
If freshman year is too expensive and your parents would need to take loans for you to attend, don’t count on any other scholarships afterwards to make things more affordable .
