Scholarships and Financial Aid for foreign European transfer students?

My friend is from Germany and we have been trying to find scholarships for her. The only problem is that a lot of the scholarships were for Texas residents; It was difficult to filter the scholarship options for her. Any good scholarships or websites she can try?

There are very, very few scholarships for transfer students, and even less for international transfer students.

The only thing I can think of…is there any German group that gives scholarships for, students wishing to study abroad.

Can’t she go to college in Germany for free?

Does the German gov’t offer any financial assistance for its student’s to study abroad?

@Madison85 A lot of the foreign exchange students’ dreams [that i have met] were to come to school in America. She is pursuing her dream and will become an american citizen.

@GMTplus7 I am not sure. She said since the college is free over there they will give little aid to abroad students based on income. She knows a family [who her family makes more money than] that has a son studying abroad and they only give that student a few dollars a month. But, since I am not from the country I cannot verify that answer.

How will she become an American citizen? Is she really coming to study?
US immigration rules are strict. It’s not that easy to become a citizen.

@“aunt bea” That’s irrelevant to the discussion.

You were the one who brought it up.

Little or no financial aid for your friend. She will have to settle for a German higher education.

Well,

you added that to the thread.^
The reason I added that is because if she ever plans on coming to the US, to get a student visa, she will be asked about future intentions.

FWIW: scholarships, for international candidates are very limited, and for international TRANSFER students, even worse. Most scholarships are funded by the federal government, states or organizations whose priority are US students. Many US transfer students cannot pay for a university level education. There just isn’t any money to provide an education for every student who wants one. So being an international candidate, asking for funding, places her on the bottom rung. The expenses for attending a US university are not cheap.

She needs to seek out an EducationUSA office and see if they know of any scholarships. More than likely, her country would have to provide study-abroad funding.

@“aunt bea” she is in the USA studying at a two-year college. She will be transferring to a 4-year university next fall. I found a lot of financial aid for foreign students, however, they were for latin American students. I don’t know her set plans on becoming an American citizen and we are not worried about it at the moment. We discussed her getting aid from her country but like I said, it’s difficult. When I found aid for latin students I wondered if there was financial aid for german students somewhere. Being from Texas, I can understand why there is financial aid for those [Latin] students, we were just wondering if there was for her.

If she is currently studying at a community college…have her see the transfer advisor there. Perhaps that person might know, about schools with aid for kids in her situation.
