Also if you guys know of other good schools that I would have a chance at getting above 20k per year scholarship at please say.
Thank you!!!

@WayOutWestMom

Wouldn’t this student get a great ride at U of NM?

He’s eligible for the UNM Regent’s Scholarship–which is a true full ride (full tuition, full R&B in the honor scholars dorm in a single room, plus an additional $1000/year) He could also get a full ride at NMTech. And probably at NM State as well.

I know which school he attends. (One of my kids graduated from the same school.)

The school has great college advising. He needs to talk with one of GCs who are all very experienced (and very good!) and will work with his financial constraints.

@mocktrialer5 – make an appt w/ the counseling office and ask to look at their scattergrams of acceptances and awards. You’ll be able to get ideas of where you can get great merit aid.

The real issue here isn’t that he can’t afford to go to college–it’s that he wants to go OOS.

Lots of kids from this school end up at UNM (University Near Mom) due to the great FA they get there but aren’t happy about it

OP, be sure to compare the scholarships to tuition & fees and to total Cost to Attend to be sure your colleges are do-able.

@WayOutWestMom You are right that I want to go OOS. My parents can technically afford to send me to any college I choose, but I wouldn’t have much money left for graduate school. I am not eligible for any financial aid bc of my parents tax bracket. My parents are only willing to pay full tuition to a top 10-20 which based on my GPA I don’t think I have great chances of getting accepted to. So, I need to find a school that is preferably OOS and that I can afford (preferably a full ride.) Do you have any suggestions?
