Scholarships for Descendants of WWII veterans

Where would I look to find scholarships for descendants of those who served in World War II and were killed in action?

My husband's father was a doctor on a hospital ship at the end of WWII which took a hit from a kamikaze plane.

I am just starting to research scholarships and I'm sure there are some to honor our fallen war heroes.

Any suggestions as to where to start? Thanks.

Not WWII, but descendants of WWI veterans can get the LaVerne Noyes Scholarship at the schools listed in this website. Not sure of the amount awarded at each school, but my son gets $300 a year for it at Indiana University Bloomington.

Thanks! I had to do a quick history check in my mind but it was in fact World War II.

I’m sure there are scholarships for this and I guess I just need to keep checking on the web and hoping somebody on CC has some ideas.

I remember there was one I was looking at for my daughter (granddaughter of Korean War Veteran) but I can’t remember what it was. Here is a link to help you get started

At a minimum the Amvets seem to have something that may be applicable.

I appreciate your response! I just now looked at the site and bookmarked a few programs that we will definitely apply to.

Check the national websites for Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

One of the two, if not both, did offer a scholarship for descendants of military service personnel (I think the AFW one went back to grandparent, maybe grandparent), but if I recall the key here was that the veteran had to have membership in a post.

It’s been a few years since I did the research, so I may have some detail wrong.
