Scholarships for International Students

Hello,

I am currently a junior from South America and would like to get some help on scholarships. Please post any full-tuition scholarships that you're aware of for international students. I know that there are A LOT of scholarships from private companies and institutions for US citizens (e.g. Coca Cola) but I'm looking for university merit-based scholarships. Thank you.

If you do any research on this thread, you will see that there are very, very, very few “tull-tuition scholarships” for international students. Some universities may grant such financial help at their discretion to a couple of students per year, and you’ll find lists on this forum of schools that have done this. And there are the handful of schools with “need-blind” admissions that also will cover, as a policy, whatever your family can’t pay. Obviously, these are the toughest schools to get into, and you have to be a truly exceptional applicant (think international olympiad finalist, etc, caliber) to have more than a smidgeon of a chance.

^i wish people would stop posting wildly pessimistic accounts without citing anything

there aren’t any international olympiad finalists among the full-aid internationals at my school. it would suffice to say that your stats would need to be above the 75th percentile for the school. helps if the school in question is T20 (below that, aid just generally starts to get sketchy, though it’s not unheard of for people to get aid at lower-ranked schools). I would think everyone understands at this stage that we are talking exclusively about private schools, but I will reiterate that point just to check.

“wildly pessimistic” LOL. Try “mildly realistic.” And I said olympiad-CALIBER. Big difference.

It does sound a bit pessimistic to me as well.

There are plenty of colleges out there that grant full-tuition scholarships on the basis of test scores and GPA. I’ve seen guaranteed full-tuition scholarships for ACT scores as low as 29. Whether those colleges are worth attending is another question, but the option is certainly there.

There are several threads on Guaranteed Merit Aid and Automatic Merit Scholarships in the Financial Aid Forum. Scroll down through that forum and look for them. Then check the rules governing those scholarships. Some are open to international applicants as well as US applicants. But do remember that each college and university sets its own policies about these things, and can change them at any time. What is available this year might not exist next year.
